On Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, Joyce Marie Olson, (nee Thalacker), joined her Lord in eternal rest at home in Eau Claire, Wis.
She was born in Buffalo County, to August and Marion Thalacker (Nichols) June 17, 1935. She lived in various places and graduated Mondovi High School in 1954. Following graduation, she enrolled in the radiology program at Minneapolis General Hospital. Upon graduation she was employed by Gundersen Clinic in La Crosse. She worked there until 1961, then she worked at the La Crosse Clinic from 1962 to 1964. She went back to Gundersen Clinic in 1979 and in 1985, she transferred to the Gundersen Clinic in Onalaska, where she did both radiology and mammography. She retired in April 1996.
She met and married Loren Myron Olson Dec. 16, 1956. They lived in La Crosse, until moving to Onalaska, in 1970. In 2006, Joyce moved to Eau Claire, to be closer to relatives. She enjoyed artistic crafts including scrapbooking, creating cards, ceramics, painting and many others.
Joyce and Loren became parents and are survived by three children, Charles Loren Olson, of Virginia, Carol Joy Olson, of Eau Claire and Craig (Karri) Richard Olson, also of Virginia; grandchildren, Tristan Johnson of Minneapolis, Jonathan Simmons of Madison, Wis., Danielle Olson and Kaydence Olson of Virginia, Craig Richard Olson Jr. and Jake Olson, of Virginia; sister, Delores Session of Eau Claire; and her two sisters-in-law, Betty Powers of Eau Claire and Arlene Serum of Mondovi, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded by her husband, Loren in 2000; her parents, August and Marion; in-laws, Hilda and Myron Olson; her brothers-in-law, James J. Session and LeRoy Powers.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Hope Lutheran Church, 2226 Eddy Lane, Eau Claire, with Pastor Mary Erickson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Smith Funeral Chapel, as well as one hour prior to services Saturday at church.
