Ruth (McReynolds) Hayes, 98, of rural Westby died peacefully Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, in the home that she built in Esofea, with her late husband, Dan (Truman Daniel) Hayes.
Both musicians, Dan was a professor of music at UW-La Cross, and Ruth a teacher at Emerson School for over 20 years. Ruth, a violin student of a student of a student of Joachim, played in the La Crosse Symphony. She and Dan were also founding members of the original People’s Co-op and were instrumental in the establishment of Esofea Gardens near Westby.
Ruth is survived by daughter, Dorothy (Martirano); sons, Edward and Joseph; and by eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
