The lighting of the National Christmas Tree is an unbroken tradition which begun in 1923, when President Calvin Coolidge lit the first tree in the President's Park on behalf of all Americans. While the Associated Press archives don't have photos of every tree lighting back to 1923, here's a look back at various lighting ceremonies going back Herbert Hoover in 1931.
