A 28-year-old La Crosse man who told a Shopko store loss-prevention worker that he didn’t have any money was arrested for retail theft for trying to steal Astroglide personal lubricant at the store at 4344 Mormon Coulee Road, according to a police report.

The man, who will be 29 Wednesday, entered the store shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sept. 6 and was looking around when he slipped the Astroglide into his pocket, the Shopko worker told police.

He told the worker that he was getting the lubricant because his girlfriend was coming over. He asked the worker not to call police, according to the police report, which noted that the store’s security camera confirmed the loss-prevention employee’s story.

The man told police that the store worker told him she would not call police if he cooperated, a statement she denied.

I must say that posting this story shows that the Tribune has a dry sense of humor.
