A 38-year-old man is facing sexual misconduct charges after he was accused of touching a 14-year-old girl inappropriately in La Crosse.

Shaun Weaver, no permanent address, was charged Wednesday with second-degree sexual assault of a child and two counts of possession of child pornography, all as a repeat offender, in La Crosse County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, the girl, now 15, told investigators Weaver was at a friend’s house on Caledonia Street about July 2017 when he asked to touch her breasts. After doing so, Weaver told the teen he would come back when she was 18 so he could have sex with her “properly.”

Weaver denied ever being alone with the girl, telling investigators Sept. 6, “If something happened by accident, then I didn’t realize it.”

A search of Weaver’s cellphone revealed two images of nude prepubescent girls, one of whom was pictured alongside an adult man. Weaver said the photos weren’t his.

Weaver was convicted of two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child in 2000 after he pleaded guilty in Trempealeau County Circuit court and in May was convicted of a sex registry violation.

He remains jailed on a $10,000 cash bond.
