The Minnesota man who was injured after authorities say he fled police in West Salem was charged Friday.

Dante D. Davis

Dante D. Davis, 21, of St. Cloud, Minn., was charged with second-degree recklessly endangering safety and attempting to flee or elude an officer, a repeat offender, at La Crosse County Circuit Court.

A deputy attempted to stop Davis at about 10 a.m. Wednesday when he failed to obey a stop sign and almost struck another car in West Salem, according to police.

The deputy pursued Davis but terminated the pursuit because of Davis’ erratic driving, which reached speeds nearing 100 mph, according to the criminal complaint.

Police spotted Davis in the town of Hamilton and attempted to stop, according to the complaint. Davis ignored the sirens but drove over road spikes set up by police, according to the criminal complaint.

Davis’ vehicle tires were deflated and his car crashed into a tree. Davis then fled on foot, running through yards and jumping over fences, authorities said.

Police located Davis and arrested him, authorities said. Davis was transported to Gundersen Health System for minor injuries, according to the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office.

Police from Holmen, Onalaska, Wisconsin State Patrol, Holmen First Responders and Fire Department assisted La Crosse County deputies.
