With one more competition remaining this season — next weekend’s Gathering of the Stars event at Holmen High School — La Crosse Logan High School’s show choir program had its best showing of the season last weekend at Brodhead High School’s In the Spotlight event.
Logan’s senior show choir, The Class Act, won the grand champion trophy in the mixed division while also getting awards for best choreography and best crew. In addition, Megan Olson was named best female soloist. This was the first grand championship of the season for The Class Act, which had two second-place finishes.
Logan’s all-female group, Classy Ladies, won second place in the prep division.
Holmen closed its competition season last weekend with a second-place finish at Marion High School’s Masquerade event in Iowa with a second-place finish for Midwest Express. Holmen’s female choir, Midwest Magic, took first place in the women’s division and won the award for best band.
Onalaska High School’s Hilltoppers show choir also was in Iowa last weekend, taking third place at the Raise the Roof competition at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids.
La Crosse Central’s Grand Central Station wrapped up its season last weekend in Iowa, taking fourth place at The Main Event in Dubuque.
Logan and Onalaska will have both their high school show choirs competing Saturday at Holmen High School. The 10 teams performing in the mixed division at Holmen also include West Salem’s Singsations and Tomah’s Limited Edition, along with choirs from Altoona, Eau Claire, Sauk Prairie and De Pere in Wisconsin and South St. Paul, Minn.
Other area schools in the prep division, which has nine entries, will include West Salem’s Vivace and Onalaska Middle School’s Top o’ the Middle.
Holmen’s show choirs will perform in exhibition at the event, which starts at 8:35 a.m. The finals for the event, in which the top six choirs from the day perform, starts at 7 p.m.
Admission is $10 for either day or evening finals sessions, $15 for an all-day pass.
