Head-on crash kills one, hurts another in Seymour

A head-on car crash Monday afternoon in western Lafayette County left one driver dead and the other with life-threatening injuries, Sheriff Reg Gill said.

According to the Sheriff's Office:

Rosette King, 87, of Mineral Point, was traveling west on Highway 81 near Prairie Road in the town of Seymour when Chad Ernzen, age 38 of Durango, Iowa, crossed the center line and hit King head-on. The crash occurred around 2 p.m.

King died as a result of injuries at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington.

Ernzen was taken with life-threatening injuries to Southwest Health Center in Platteville and then transported to UW Hospital by Med Flight.

Lafayette County sheriff's deputies, the Belmont Fire Department and Belmont EMS responded to the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
