Physicians from Gundersen Health System and Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Healthcare will lead an educational walk through downtown La Crosse from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 14 at Burns Park at Seventh and Main streets.

During the "Walk with a Doc" event, doctors will talk about the social and health benefits of walking. It will be a part of Historic Downtown Day.

The Wisconsin Bike Fed, which organized the stroll to encourage more walking and to remind motorists to yield to pedestrians, will provide safety messages to walkers and drivers to help people cross confidently at marked and unmarked intersections.

“I think the event is a great opportunity to encourage people to be active and a good reminder that walking must be safe and comfortable for everyone” said Carolyn Dvorak, a local Share and Be Aware Program ambassador. “I’d like to see community members of all ages” participate.
