WILTON — A Wilton man was killed early Sunday in a crash in Monroe County.

A 2016 Polaris utility vehicle was westbound on Hwy. 71 near East Avenue in Wilton. It crossed the centerline and struck a mailbox before striking a utility pole, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, which received a call about the crash at 2:21 a.m.

After authorities freed the driver from under the vehicle, and he was taken by ambulance to Tomah Memorial Hospital, where he later died. The victim’s name was not released pending notification of family.

Electrical lines were down in the area as a result of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office.
