Wisconsin receives $11 million in early childhood education grants

  • 0

Wisconsin has been awarded $11 million in  Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge education grants to help continue current early-childhood programs throughout the state.

The grant is in addition to $22.7 million awarded to the state in 2012.

“The additional Race to the Top funding will help Wisconsin continue to be a leader in early childhood education,” Governor Scott Walker said in a statement. “These funds will support initiatives to improve early education in our state and help ensure kids across the state are prepared to begin kindergarten.”

The funds will be dispersed by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, which will focus the funds in areas that will help YoungStar childcare providers achieve higher ratings.

YoungStar is a Department of Children and Families program aiming to improve the quality of childcare for Wisconsin children. The funds will specifically help providers achieve higher ratings by providing additional training, mentoring, and on-site coaching to improve family engagement in their children's early education.
