As the president of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 509, I consider it my responsibility to speak out in support of family-wage jobs.
The proposed $810 million high-speed rail line between Madison and Milwaukee would create more than 5,000 high-quality jobs to help put our economy back on track, and we can’t afford to cancel that effort.
In addition, the city of Milwaukee spent $10 million to buy the site where the trains are being built by Spanish manufacturer Talgo. If the project is canceled, that blighted industrial area will suffer yet another major setback.
I am counting on Gov.-elect Scott Walker to show some true leadership and reconsider his position on the high-speed rail project.
