The Wisconsin Department of Pubic Instruction Superintendent Carolyn Stanford Taylor testified on reopening schools and federal aid during Tuesday's Joint Committee on Finance agency briefing. Committee member Senator Dale Kooyenga (R-Brookfield) argued using existing state money to recognize that some school districts have faired better on the federal school aid money than others even while some have been teaching in-person. Stanford Taylor responded by explaining how the federal dollars are not conditioned on in-person instruction and emphasized that the federal dollars do not cover the on-going needs of schools across the state, therefore, the department's budget request from last fall is still needed.
