The city of La Crosse wants to downsize Clinton Street to two lanes from four lanes at a time when there has been a fight to get a new highway across the marsh to relieve traffic problems.
You wonder who dreams up these things.
We ride bikes all the time, and would have no problem riding on the sidewalk along Clinton Street since hardly anyone walks on it anyway, and is much safer.
It's also legal to ride in the right lane even without designating it as a bike lane, and calling it a bike lane doesn't make it any safer.
There are only two ways to get to and from French Island; and to downsize one doesn't make any sense. What if you had to evacuate French Island because of a flood or some other emergency? Our tax dollars would be better spent on fixing roads and bridges.
