I strongly agree with Lilly Nelson's column, "Hiawatha represents our diversity (Feb. 19 Tribune), about the "Hiawatha" statue in Riverside Park.
She accurately states how this statue represents La Crosse and honors how our community started.
Taking down this statue would be like taking down a part of La Crosse.
However, I do disagree how she compares this statue to Oktoberfest and the Hmong new year because there is no connection to the statue and those events.
Overall, I do agree how she emphasizes the importance of the Native Americans and how the statue diversifies our community.
The statue should not be torn down, it should be kept for future generations to honor.
