In a couple weeks, Minnesota residents will again have the opportunity to attend precinct caucuses.
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the DFL (Democratic) Party caucuses will be held at the high schools in Caledonia, Spring Grove, Houston and La Crescent. Caucuses start at 7 p.m., with registration open at 6:30 p.m.
To find your caucus location and learn more about Minnesota elections and voting, go to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website http://caucusfinder.sos.state.mn.us/.
As Houston County DFL chair, I invite you to join your neighbors to cast a preference ballot for governor, discuss the issues important to you, and submit resolutions to help shape the DFL platform. Precinct leadership, as well as county convention delegates, will be selected. You can also sign up to serve as an election judge.
If you have never attended a caucus, make this the year you get involved. If you will be 18 by Nov. 6, you can vote in the preference ballot, and be elected as a delegate. If you will be 16 by Nov. 6, you can hold party office.
Beloved Minnesota Sen. Paul Wellstone spoke of the importance of active participation, “We need a new kind of citizenship, so we can see citizens as themselves earning the rank of patriot because of their involvement in their community affairs. … We as a society need to be encouraging people to focus not just on individual wants, but on serving the larger community.”
Be part of the larger community on Feb. 6.
