As Vernon County dairy farmers, we know firsthand the challenges that Wisconsin farmers are facing. Milk prices everywhere are low, Canada has put up trade barriers, and imitation drinks are labeled “milk” even though they don’t contain a drop of real dairy.
In these hard times, we think Wisconsin dairy farmers have true representation with Sen. Tammy Baldwin. She not only listens to our farmers, she understands the business, and she’s working across party lines to get Washington to finally start working for the dairy farm families of Wisconsin.
Imitation dairy products are taking advantage of milk’s good name. Grocery store shelves are stocked with “milk” cartons that don’t contain a drop of real dairy. While existing federal regulation is clear, defining dairy products as coming from dairy animals, the Food and Drug Administration has not enforced accurate labeling. Baldwin's bipartisan Diary Pride Act will stop imitation, plant-based drinks from stealing the good name of Wisconsin milk.
That’s why we support and respect Baldwin for what she does for Wisconsin and our dairy farm families. Every vote counts, so if your town depends on dairy farms, please get involved in 2018.
