Electrician

A small upgrade that made a big difference in our backyard security was adding a motion-sensing exterior light at the rear of the house where we parked the car. When we returned home in the dark it wasn’t easy to see the path that led to our back door, but the addition of a security light made all the difference, not to mention ensure all was safe. A sensor knows when someone crosses its path and creates a safe and stumble-free passage, even when there’s snow on the ground or no bright moon to guide you.

Electricians can enter the field without four-year degrees and can instead opt for a less expensive trade school education or an apprenticeship that allows them to earn while they hone their skills.

One of the nicest additions we made in our kitchen is a strip of under cabinet lights that makes preparing food safer and easier. As an inexpensive but highly worthwhile investment, the low-profile fixtures come in strips easily installed in the shallow recess on the bottom of cabinets and they plug into a wall receptacle.

In a busy family bathroom nothing gets a harder workout than a bathroom fan. You can replace the guts of the fan, without tearing out the whole thing, when it becomes noisy and does a poor job of removing hot, damp air. The Fantech Bath Fan Conversion Kit Model BFRK100 is designed for do-it-yourselfers and lets you use the existing exhaust fan grill and housing, so there’s no ceiling repair work required. And the unit is Energy Star rated, meaning it’s more efficient than your old fan.

We first noticed rail lighting in trendy restaurants, and today they’re popular in homes with fixtures mounted on rails across a ceiling or along a wall. They offer a lot of versatility to create a dramatic design element or a practical solution used as general overhead lighting in a room or to showcase a particular wall or feature.

An AFCI (arc-fault circuit interrupter) can protect you and your family from unseen dangers in your home’s wiring. It is a safety device designed to protect against residential fires caused by a leak in the current outside a wire’s insulation. The device takes over where conventional circuit breakers, which can’t detect damaged wires or faulty electrical insulation, leave off.

After living in a home or apartment with motion-sensing switches, it’s a safety convenience you take for granted. Whether you’re finding your way on a dark walkway outside or entering a room at night, a light switch with a sensor that turns on when it detects motion is very helpful. These sensors anticipate movement and make it safe going down a dark staircase to the basement, in public bathrooms and even while cruising the lighted freezer section in grocery stores; they conserve energy while providing instant lighting.

A working smoke detector can be a lifesaver, but when it starts beeping at three in the morning, you probably feel more like ripping it out of the ceiling. If you’re tired of waking up to a chirping smoke detector, try these steps to get it working again.

In addition to the skylight, illumination comes from this custom light designed by the client. The client drew up the design and gathered the materials from Black Market Furniture, the same company that made the vanity and shelving unit. Then, the project’s electrician helped him put it all together and hang it from the ceiling.
