Aquinas co-op boys hockey loses WIAA appeal

  • Updated

The Aquinas co-op boys hockey team had its suspension from the upcoming WIAA playoffs upheld after a meeting with the association’s Board of Control this afternoon.

The Avalanche (14-6) won a share of their first MVC championship by beating Tomah on Tuesday, but they will not be part of the bracket. The team was a No. 3 seed.

The Avalanche were eliminated from the playoffs for violation of the Jablonski Rule. It states that a team is eliminated from the playoffs if it has three 10-minute checking-from-behind penalties that result in disqualifications in a season. The Avalanche had their third on Jan. 3.

Representatives from all four of the co-op’s schools — Aquinas, Holmen, G-E-T and C-FC — attended the appeal at the association headquarters in Stevens Point, Wis.
