Arcadia volleyball flexes its muscles, sweeps Black River Falls


ARCADIA — The Arcadia High School volleyball team, which is making a run at a Coulee Conference title, made quick work of Black River Falls Monday night.

With 6-foot-2 sophomore Hanna Hoesley (16 kills, 8 blocks) leading the way, the Raiders posted a 25-14, 25-13, 25-16 victory over the Tigers.

“It was a slow start, but as the (first game) went on, we took a bigger lead and I would say took control,” Arcadia coach Andrea Haines said.

The Raiders definitely controlled the net, as Michaela Brueggen added seven blocks. Senior Alyssa Pronschinske added nine kills for Arcadia (8-1 Coulee), while Taylor Haines recorded 40 assists.

Defensively, Mikaela Sobotta had 22 digs for the Raiders, while teammates Alli Petz (13) and Maddie Herman (12) also played key roles.

Lauren Helstad led Black River Falls (3-5 Coulee) with four kills, while Hailey Collins had three ace serves. Miranda Jesse led the Tigers defensively with six digs.

West Salem 3,

Onalaska Luther 0

ONALASKA, Wis. — Anna Lattos smashed 17 kills to lead West Salem to a 25-8, 25-19, 26-16 Coulee Conference victory over Luther. Nora Meyer added 14 digs for the Panthers, while Olivia Olson recorded 16 assists.


Winona 3, Caledonia 0

CALEDONIA — Audrey Scharmer recorded 15 kills while teammate Cassidy Bittle added 10 to power the Winhawks (12-7) to a 25-16, 25-20, 25-10 victory over Caledonia.

Paige Schmidt directed the Winhawks’ offense with 29 assists and added three ace serves. Abby Winter led Winona’s defense with 13 digs.

Lottie Augedahl led Caledonia (8-12) with nine kills. Adrianna Reinhart recorded 21 assists for the Warriors, while Lauren Rusert had 13 digs.

Cotter 3, La Crescent 2

LA CRESCENT — Cotter rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat La Crescent 25-19, 24-26, 27-29, 25-13, 16-14 in a nonconference match.

Hannah Spiten led the Ramblers (4-11) with 17 kills, while teammates Mikala Nelson (11) and Sarah Walker (10) also played key roles. Jenny Hardaway had 38 assists for Cotter, while teammate Beth Parlin added 18. Gabby Bowlin had 20 digs for Cotter.

Jennifer Michalke led La Crescent with nine kills, 10 digs and two blocks. Teammate Kristine Dunnum added seven kills, 18 digs, 10 blocks and two ace serves.

Miranda Wally added 36 digs for the Lancers (4-10).


Onalaska 5, Onalaska Luther 2

ONALASKA — Hilltoppers sophomore Shannyn Waltz improved to 22-2 with a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles.

The Knights’ No. 1 doubles team or Paige Potaracke and Shelby Zillmer won and improved to 22-1.


Sparta 3, Reedsburg 1

SPARTA, Wis. — Senior Adam Quast scored two goals while teammate Collin Laufenberg added another to power Sparta to a nonconference victory. Trent Thompson recorded six saves for Sparta, which led 2-1 at the half.


La Crescent 2, Caledonia 0

LA CRESCENT — La Crescent’s Emmalee Finn gave the Lancers a 1-0 first-half lead, then Brielle Bierman scored on a penalty kick at the 50-minute mark to ice the nonconference win.

It was the 16th goal of the season for Finn, and the 22nd for Bierman.

“I was very pleased with our defense as it was especially tough. We didn’t allow them even a good look,” said La Crescent coach Ed Hoskin, whose team is ranked ninth in Class A in the latest state poll.

“That’s a great foundation to have.”
