    Last year, the De Soto track team had Vlad Scoville, Lydia Poulin and Kasey Ballwahn. Poulin and then junior Derek Sheehan finished up at sectionals, while Scoville ended his year at the state track meet.

    With just more than 9 seconds left, Tanner Johnson gave the Pirates a two-point lead to cap a 12-6 De Soto (4-5) fourth quarter. Johnson finished with 15 points, while Dominic Luxton and Chuck Arnold scored 13 and 12, respectively, for the Falcons (2-8).

    Jordan Cochroft scored 23 points to lead the Bulldogs, who outscored the Pirates 36-17 in the second half. Junior Shelby Buckles scored 14 and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Morgan Olson added 11 points for De Soto.

    The Pirates opened the game on an 11-0 run behind the shooting of Kody Larson, who made two 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points. Tanner Johnson added 13 for De Soto, which led 24-8 at halftime.

    The Red Hawks, thanks in part to their 2-3 zone defense, built a 22-4 first-quarter lead. The Red Hawks had 10 players contribute offensively, with Annalese Lamke leading the way with 12 points. De Soto’s Shelbie Buckles had eight points.

    North Crawford outscored De Soto 11-6 in the fourth quarter to get back into the game after trailing 25-18 at the start of the quarter. The Trojans had a chance to win with about two seconds left, but couldn’t convert. Morgan Olson led the Pirates with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Hollie Mardi…

    Junior Shelby Buckles led the Pirates, who have won two straight Ridge and Valley conference championships, with 14 kills in a 25-23, 25-23, 8-25, 17-25, 15-8 victory. Senior Katie Oppriecht added eight kills and seven digs for the Pirates.
