The Logan High School football team started fast, then stayed on the ground Friday in its 48-0 MVC victory over Sparta.
The Rangers (5-1, 4-0 MVC) ran for 304 yards and six touchdowns to post its ninth consecutive victory over Sparta (0-6, 0-2). More importantly, the win kept Logan tied with Holmen atop the MVC standings.
Two touchdowns 20 seconds apart in the first quarter got things rolling for the Rangers. Aric Elmore led Logan with 86 yards on 10 carries and two TDs, including one on a punt return.
“That really set things up for us,” Logan coach Casey Knoble said of the fast start. “We had some big runs and that got us going.”
With 2 minutes, 34 seconds left in the first quarter, Calvin Reidt scored from 6 yards out to put Logan on top. Elmore then had a 53-yard punt return for a TD.
Another TD from Elmore and two from Raekwon Tilman gave Logan a 35-0 lead at the half.
Jaren Poff and Jacob Strange scored in the fourth quarter for Logan.
It was Sparta’s 20th consecutive loss and 35th straight in MVC action.
