SHULLSBURG, Wis. — The Brookwood High School football team was unable to hold on to a late lead as it fell 22-17 to Shullsburg in a nonconference matchup on Saturday.
After falling behind early, the Falcons (4-3) were able to battle back and take a 17-16 lead but a late touchdown from the Miners sent the Falcons home without a win.
Shullsburg (3-4) used a pair of touchdowns from Ben Sigwarth and a safety to build a 16-7 lead but Brookwood scored the next 10 points to get back into the game. Cory Ottum scored in the first quarter and Jack Hansen gave the Falcons the lead with a 4-yard score in the fourth quarter after nailing a 32 yard field goal in the third quarter.
Ottum finished with 161 yards on 26 carries to lead a Falcons offense that outgained Shullsburg 353-248. Matt Hansen also threw for 40 yards on 6 of 10 passing for Brookwood.
The Miners were able to score for the final time at the 5:02 mark when quarterback Noah Wand found Joey Meyer on a 46 yard touchdown pass.
Coulee Christian 5, Eau Claire Immanuel 2
WEST SALEM — Zach Twite scored two second-half goals to lead Coulee Christian to the win and complete a hat trick for the afternoon. Josh Deleeuw and Jesse Miller also chipped in goals for the Eagles (12-2-2), and Geonho Shin finished with two assists.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The Prairie du Chien girls placed fifth in the nine-team small school division led by Ella Hein, who finished fourth (21:17). Teammate Amber Huser placed 12th (21:55).
The boys team finished seventh in the 12-team small school division. Nick Kurtz placed second (17:14).
