    MADISON – Pins a couple of minutes apart by Holmen’s Hunter Hauser and Tomah’s Lucas Stromberg highlighted an afternoon that included three third-place finishes for Coulee Region wrestlers at the WIAA individual state tournament at the Kohl Center today.

    The Timberwolves’ Timmy Nicksic and Ben King each recorded a hat trick, and Nicksic added two assists as Tomah held the Spartans scoreless. Eric Vender had one goal and two assists, while Coty Gular had two goals.

    The Hilltoppers’ defense managed to hold the Spartans to four first-half points behind another solid performance from junior Courtney Meyer, who had 13 points and 14 rebounds. The Spartans’ box in one defense kept Natalie Soper (14.3 ppg) scoreless.

    Junior Courtney Meyer scored six of her team-high nine points in the fourth quarter as the first-place Hilltoppers (6-1, 2-0 MVC) rallied from a seven-point deficit to win. Sparta’s Schannel Giraud led all scorers with 15 points.  Sparta is 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the MVC.
