University of Wisconsin men’s basketball coach Bo Ryan didn’t need to search too far to fill the director of basketball operations position on his staff.
Ryan on Friday announced the hire of Katherine Vosters, who has been part of the program in various roles for five years, to replace Luke Wainwright in a crucial behind-the-scenes role.
Vosters, a Fitchburg native, served as a program assistant last season. Prior to that, she served as a student-manager for four seasons, including two seasons as UW’s lead manager.
“Kat has been a valuable member of our staff for several years now, working her way up from student manager, to program assistant and now in our operations position,” Ryan said in a statement. “She’s organized and has a strong work ethic and shown she is ready to take on the new responsibilities. This should provide a smooth transition for our program and keep us running efficiently.”
Wainwright stepped down earlier this month to pursue a career in coaching after spending eight seasons in the program, including four as Ryan’s director of basketball operations.

Vosters will be responsible for coordinating the team’s travel and managers in addition to overseeing budgets for the program and helping put together Ryan’s annual benefit golf outing, among other administrative duties.
“I have been fortunate to have worked with this program for the past five years, and to be given the opportunity to take on the role of director of basketball operations is very exciting,” Vosters, a 2013 UW graduate, said in a statement. “I thank coach Ryan and his staff for the opportunity and look forward to continuing my commitment to Wisconsin basketball.”
