JANESVILLE, Wis. — The Coulee Region Chill have work to do.

Despite taking the top-seeded Janesville Jets to double overtime, Coulee Region was unable to secure its first postseason victory of the year, as the Jets took on step closer to the Midwest Division finals with a 3-2 win over the Chill in front of 650 fans at Janesville Ice Arena.

Carter Ekberg did the honors for Janesville, burying the game-winning goal — just his fifth of the season — at 9:54 of the second overtime period. Joseph Abate and Cullen Munson assisted on the same play, which sent the Chill back to La Crosse with a 2-0 series deficit in hand.

The Chill gave up 70 shots, of which rookie goaltender Brad Arvanitis saved 67.

Coulee Region welcomes the Jets for Game 3 at 7 p.m. Friday at Green Island Ice Arena, needing three consecutive victories to advance its season beyond the first round.

As they did Friday — although not quite as quickly — the Jets took a 1-0 lead in the first period. They opened the scoring after just 14 seconds in their Game 1 victory, but needed just over nine minutes to take their first lead Saturday night, as Abate buried his first of the postseason at 9:21.

Just over three minutes later, Air Force Academy recruit Billy Duma brought Coulee Region back on level terms at 12:22 with his ninth goal of the season. Then, with exactly four minutes to play in the opening stanza, Kip Hoffman scored another for Janesville to give the Jets a 2-1 lead at first intermission.

The Chill took a bit longer to find their second equalizer of the night, but they discovered it nonetheless. Matt Doran was the man of the moment, taking a feed from Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup before netting his seventh goal of the season to make it 2-2.

From there, both sides were held scoreless for the ensuing 35 minutes, 47 seconds, until Ekberg's power-play goal sent the home fans home happy.
