LA CRESCENT — The La Crescent Cardinals used a four-run eighth inning and four-hit pitching from a starter and reliever to shut down Chaseburg/Coon Valley 7-0 in a Mississippi Valley League baseball game on Wednesday.

Ryan Ellingson went 3-for-3, and Rich Roiz was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for La Crescent (7-3, 4-2), which also scored single runs in the third, fourth and seventh innings.

The Blues managed three hits against la Crescent starting pitcher Jon Grana and on against Brad Banse. Grana pitched 7⅓ innings with six strikeouts and no walks. Banse pitched 1⅔ with four strikeouts and two walks.
