Onalaska High School and Iowa State University graduate Matt Thomas is expected to join the Toronto Raptors for the NBA Summer League, according to a source requesting anonymity.
Thomas was not selected in either of the two rounds of the NBA draft on Thursday night and was in discussions with four teams while trying to determine his immediate future.
Thomas helped the Hilltoppers win a WIAA Division 2 state championship as a junior and was part of four Iowa State teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
Thomas, a 6-foot-4 guard, shot 44.5 percent (89-for-200) from the 3-point line and averaged 12.3 points per game as a senior for the Cyclones. Thomas had an official workout with Toronto before the draft.
The NBA Summer League takes place July 7-17 in Las Vegas with 24 teams in attendance.
Thomas is the second Coulee Region product to get a chance at the NBA this season. Aquinas grad Bronson Koenig will sign a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks on July 1.
