DALLAS — The Montreal Canadiens made West Salem High School graduate Jack Gorniak their fourth-round pick in the NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Gorniak, a University of Wisconsin recruit, led West Salem/Bangor to the WIAA state tournament as a senior and impressed NHL personnel with his performances at scouting combines after the season and with Team Wisconsin in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League.

Gorniak, a forward, was selected 123rd overall and had 30 goals and 33 assists for the Panthers (20-8), who had their season ended with a 6-2 loss to Eau Claire Memorial in the state quarterfinals.

He had 107 goals and 146 assists during his high school career and had 18 goals and 20 assists during 24 games with Team Wisconsin this past season.

Gorniak's selection gave the Badgers four draftees for the third straight year.

He had 107 goals and 146 assists during his high school career and had 18 goals and 20 assists during 24 games with Team Wisconsin this past season.
