WILLMAR, Minn. — La Crosse took a one-run lead into the bottom of the seventh inning of its Northwoods League game with the Willmar Stingers Friday night.

Then the bottom fell out.

Willmar scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh, then cruised to a 8-3 victory before 1,071 fans at Bill Taunton Stadium.

Willmar improved to 16-16 in the first half of the NWL season, while La Crosse fell to 12-18.

La Crosse, which had seven hits to Willmar’s nine, rode the pitching of Miles Sandum, a freshman from San Diego, for 5 1/3 innings. Sanum allowed six hits but just one earned run while striking out two and walking three.

Willmar, however, got to La Crosse’s bullpen in the seventh. The Stingers got to reliever Hunter Davis, who allowed two hits and six runs in just 2/3 of an inning.

Kennie Taylor, a sophomore outfielder from Duke, went 2-for-4 to raise his average to .333, while Jeremy Ydens, a freshman from UCLA, went 2-for-4. David Villar doubled for the Loggers, who scored two runs in the sixth and one in the ninth.

La Crosse hit the road for a long trip after Friday night’s game, as the Loggers have two games in Thunder Bay, Ontario, with the first being at 4:05 p.m. today.
