The La Crosse Post 52 American Legion baseball team (2-0) got its summer off to a good start with a doubleheader sweep of Melrose-Mindoro/Bangor (0-2) on Thursday at Copeland Park.

Post 52 won the first game 8-1 in part due to a four-run first inning before taking the second game 10-0 in five innings.

Connor Knerzer pitched a complete game and went 3-for-3 in Game 1, and Matthew Borsheim did the same in Game 2.

NORTH STARS SPLIT WITH WESTBY/COON VALLEY: Westby/Coon Valley won the first game 8-1 before the North Stars came back to win the second 12-2.

Kyle Larson struck out five without walking a batter and allowed four hits in the opener. Sam Strangstalien drove in two runs, and Carter Bergdahl and Kenny Berg had two hits apiece for Westby/Coon valley.

Alex Gavrulos drove in three runs, and Andy Metcalf and Nick Frey each had two hits for the North Stars in the second game. Michael Rojo pitched for the North Stars and allowed four hits.

BI-STATE, C-FC SPLIT: The Bi-State Bulldogs split a doubleheader against C-FC.

In the opener, Brandon Stadtler had eight strikeouts in a complete game, 1-0 win. Nehemiah Pamperin had an RBI in the fifth for the game’s lone run.

C-FC won the second game 2-1 on the strength of first-inning RBI from Tristan Schmidtknecht and Brady Drazkowski.

BLACK RIVER FALLS 12, STODDARD 0: Two big innings for Black River Falls were aided by four infield errors by Stoddard.

LA CRESCENT 8, ONALASKA 7: La Crescent scored six unearned runs off five Onalaska errors to hold onto a win.

Laudon Poellinger had a two-run single in the first to get his 2-for-3 day started. He also pitched, earning the win. Jake Knutson’s RBI single in the seventh gave La Crescent (1-0) the insurance it needed to earn the victory.

Ray Heilman and Nathan Hagen went 2-for-4 for Onalaska (2-1).
