Winning the MVC championship earned the Holmen High School football team a No. 5 seed in Division 2 for the upcoming WIAA playoffs.

The Vikings (6-3) will play at No. 4 DeForest in Friday's first round after getting the fifth spot in its group of eight teams. Central (7-2), which tied Onalaska for second place in the MVC, is seeded sixth and plays at Oregon.

Both teams were placed into a tough quarter of the Division 2 bracket that also includes Waunakee (9-0) and Monona Grove (9-0).

Onalaska (6-3) earned a No. 4 seed and home game against fifth-seeded Medford in Division 3. In that same group, Logan (4-5) got a 6 seed and plays at New Richmond, and Sparta (4-5) got a 7 and plays at Ashland.

West Salem (6-3) earned a No. 3 seed in Division 4 and will host Baldwin-Woodville, while G-E-T (6-3) was seeded fifth and travels to Somerset as part of that same quarter bracket.

Coulee Conference champion Westby (8-1) is seeded second in Division 5 and hosts Cumberland, and Arcadia (5-4) is seeded eighth and travels to Spencer/Marshfield Columbus.

SWC champ Prairie du Chien (8-1) is second in its quarter of the bracket -- different than Westby and Arcadia's -- and hosts New Glarus/Monticello.

Melrose-Mindoro (8-1), which won the Dairyland Conference is a second seeded in Division 6 and hosts Darlington in the first round, while Brookwood (6-3) grabbed a 6 seed and plays at Lancaster.

Bangor (8-1), which won last year's Division 7 state championship, is seeded first and will play one of two home games for local teams in Division 7. The Cardinals host Independence/Gillmanton and fourth-seeded De Soto (6-3) hosts Eleva-Strum. Blair-Taylor is seeded seventh and plays at Highland.
