ETTRICK — Onalaska Luther High School senior David Vannucchi had his best cross country race of the season on Saturday.

Vannucchi won the Coulee Conference individual championship at Ettrick Golf Course with a winning time of 15 minutes, 50 seconds — well ahead of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau runner-up Doug Feyen.

Feyen finished in 16:35, and Onalaska Luther’s Sam Larson was third (16:50).

“The boys flat out went out and had a great day,” Knights coach Kevin Lisk said.

The Knights and Red Hawks also took the first- and second-place spots in the team standings. Onalaska Luther won with 47 team points, and G-E-T had 71.

“We were anticipating a tough fight with G-E-T and that proved to be the case,” Lisk said.

Josh Jumbeck of G-E-T finished in fourth (17:04) and West Salem’s Charlie McKinney was fifth 17:13.

Meanwhile, the Coulee girls champion is G-E-T senior Dana Feyen. Feyen dominated the race in 18:03, and won the race by 2:34.

Viroqua’s Jillian Weston was second in 20:37 to help the Blackhawks win the team championship. Viroqua scored 30 team points by claiming four of the top six spots.

Josie Dobbs was third (21:08), Lauren Brendel fourth (21:09) and Katrina Koppa was sixth (21:26) for Viroqua. Arcadia’s Mercedes Romo squeezed in fifth place (21:23).

LA CRESCENT — The Lancers were outshot 10-8 and couldn’t get junior Isaac Petersen free for a goal, but Russell Drye came through on a direct kick at the 65-minute mark to keep his third-seeded team unbeaten at 16-0.

“He went upper right corner and was probably 45 yards out,” La Crescent coach J.P. Piche said of the goal. “It was a beautiful shot.”

The Lancers earn the right to play Rochester Lourdes (9-7) at RCTC at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

“We knew this would be tough because (Red Wing) plays a lot of game against good AA teams,” Piche said. “We had to start winning balls and anticipating better in the second half, and we did.”
