Holmen's Tanner Schultz

Senior Tanner Schultz has been part of the Holmen High School wrestling team's lineup since he was a freshman. Schultz and the Vikings are ranked third in Division 1 by Wisconsin Wrestling Online and should have a lineup that can live up to that ranking.

The Holmen High School wrestling team is ranked third in Division 1 by Wisconsin Wrestling Online, and there is good reason for it.

The Vikings were their dominant selves in opening the MVC season with an 82-0 win over Onalaska/Luther on Thursday in which they had to wrestle just six matches. Holmen ended five of those matches via pin.

That performance followed up a team victory at the Waunakee Invitational on Dec. 9. The Vikings crowned seven champions on the way to 479½ points, which gave them a comfortable win over second-place Waunakee 377½ in the 16-team tournament.

Sophomore Alex pellowski (106 pounds), sophomore Logan West (126), senior Trevor Plomedahl (132), senior Tanner Schultz (145), senior Zach Gordon (152), junior Kalyn Jahn (170) and senior Jack Westcott (220) all won titles at Waunakee, while junior Rylee Rensberry (120), senior Reed Williams (160) and senior Isaac Lahr (182) placed second.

Holmen wrestles in a tournament at Rochester Community College on Friday before dual meet at Caledonia on Dec. 22. The Vikings then host the Bi-State Classic at the La Crosse Center on Dec. 29-30.

Prairie du Chien/Wauzeka is ranked fourth and Melrose-Mindoro/G-E-T fifth in Division 2, and both will participate at Bi-State this season.
