CALEDONIA, Minn. — Senior quarterback Owen King passed for three touchdowns and rushed for another as the Caledonia High School football team beat Chatfield 33-14 Saturday in an MSHSL Section 1AA semifinal.
The Warriors (9-0) advance to play Triton in the section championship game at Rochester Regional Sports Stadium on Nov. 3. That games kicks off at 8 p.m.
King ran his season total to 32 touchdown passes by connecting with Kyle Cavanaugh to open the scoring and following that with a touchdown run. He then completed TD passes to Jordan Burg and Austin Heim before Nick McCabe scored the final touchdown to give Caledonia its 37th consecutive victory.
Triton (9-1) gave the Warriors fits during the second week of the regular season, but Caledonia was able to pull out a 34-27 win after trailing by 20 points in the third quarter.
Caledonia 3, Spring Grove 0
ROCHESTER — The top-seeded Warriors advanced with a 25-11, 25-20, 25-15 victory over the Lions and play second-seeded Mabel-Canton in Rochester on Thursday for the East championship.
Madisyn Heaney had 14 kills, seven digs and two aces for Caledonia (22-8), which also received nine kills, three aces and three blocks from Lydia Lange. Rachel Welsh had nine digs, Katelyn Stemper eight digs and Katie Tornstrom and Isabel Allen five kills apiece for the Warriors.
Benton 3, Bangor 0
WAUZEKA, Wis. — Second-seeded Bangor (28-7) closed the books on their season after a three-set loss to Benton, which earned their first state berth in program history.
Benton finished off Bangor 30-28, 25-23, 25-19. At one point in the second match, Bangor held a 15-10 lead but fell short of the win.
