Johnny Sauter, shown here at the Fairgrounds Speedway in 2017, finished 15th in the Camping World Truck Series race Thursday night in Sparta, Ky. Sauter retained his points lead, however.

SPARTA, Ky. — Johnny Sauter entered the Buckle Up Your Truck 225 Thursday night with the season points lead in the Camping World Truck Series.

The Necedah, Wis., native left Kentucky with the lead, but it was significantly less after he finished 15th in the race held at the Kentucky Speedway. Sauter, who started in the seventh spot, finished 15th in a race won by 21-year-old Ben Rhodes. Rhodes, a Kentucky native, started third, and made his way to the front as he led the final 24 laps.

Sauter, who was assessed a speeding penalty on pit road late in the race, finished two laps down.

After 12 Truck Series races, Sauter — who has four wins — has 535 points, which is 42 ahead of second-place Noah Gragson.
