Onalaska High School graduate Matt Thomas scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds to help No. 21 Iowa State beat BYU 90-88 on Wednesday in Provo, Utah.

Thomas was 5 of 8 from the floor and made two 3-pointers.

The Cyclones (4-0), who were coming off a big victory over Michigan, next play Monday night against Missouri-Kansas City in Ames, Iowa.

JACK TAYLOR: Three days after scoring 109 points, Black River Falls graduate Jack Taylor was held to just three in Grinnell’s 88-79 victory over Wartburg.

Wartburg shot 73.2 percent from the floor but turned the ball over 30 times against the Pioneers’ fullcourt pressure. Taylor, who was double- and triple-teamed throughout the game, was 0-for-5 from the floor and 0-for-3 on

3-pointers, scoring all of his points at the free-throw line. He had three assists, two steals and played 19 minutes.
