FITCHBURG/VIROQUA/OSSEO, Wis. — Norma Elaine Forde, 92, of Fitchburg and formerly of Viroqua and Osseo passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 25, 2018, at the Sylvan Crossings Assisted Living where she lived.
She was born at home in Crawford County, July 19, 1925, to Emerth and Judith (Lewis) Aspenson. She attended the Vernon Normal School where she earned her teaching degree and taught grades one to eight at Rising Sun School. On Aug. 18, 1950, she married Elwood Forde at the Utica Lutheran Church in rural Ferryville. They started farming in rural Ontario, in Monroe County, until Elwood was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. She moved to Kansas to be close to him during his training and then returned to De Soto, to teach until his return. After the war they purchased a farm in Sag City, rural Viroqua and then in 1978, they purchased a farm at rural Augusta, Wis. In 1992, they retired to Osseo. She enjoyed many church activities, including quilting, bible study and circle, homemakers, volunteering at the Hospital in Osseo and spending time with her family and friends, as well as being a wonderful partner to Elwood for their 65 years together.
Norma is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Forde of Fitchburg; two sons, David (Carol) Forde of Clemmons, N.C., Dean Forde of Greenfield, Wis.; five grandchildren, Andrea (Kevin) Bernhardt, Emily (Jason) Held, Ellen (Annie) Forde, Eric Forde and Aaron Forde. She is survived by five great-grandchildren, Decorra, Kody and Bryson Bernhardt, Harrison and Abigail Held; one sister, Yvonne Ausland; one brother, Gary (Clarice) Aspenson; one brother-in-law, Charles Lind; four sisters-in-law, Genevieve Birkelo, Ruth (Robert) McClurg, Carolyn White, Beverly Forde; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Delores Aspenson, Joanne Lind; two brothers, Ishmael Aspenson, LeRoy Aspenson; three brothers-in-law, Arlin Forde, Gerhard Birkelo, Ron White.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the South West Prairie Lutheran Church with Pastor Nile Sandeen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
