On Sunday, April 15, Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Westby will be celebrating the “blessing of tractors” during their regular worship service at 10:30 a.m. The special event will be followed by a community pot-luck dinner.
A “tractor blessing” is a time in which people are reminded of God’s presence in their lives and connects them to the importance of that relationship in this time of planting.
Our Savior’s Pastor John Dumke invites everyone to share in unique blessing prayer for each tractor. People are encouraged to drive or bring their tractors, of all sizes, to church to receive a blessing. There will be reserved tractor parking in front of the church.
In both the Old Testament and New Testament a blessing was a very important part of life. People, places and even items were blessed in scripture signifying a relationship between God and God’s people. In many churches, there is a blessing of the people incorporated in weekly worship. Blessings occur at baptisms, confirmations, weddings, funerals and other important occasions in life.
“A “tractor blessing” is also a great way to worship in a new and exciting way. Please join us on Sunday,” Dumke said. He added that prayers are also lifted up for agriculture business, research, livestock, crops, gardens, and the hungry.
The blessing will take place at the close of the worship followed by the free pot-luck dinner.
