Westby fell to Coulee Conference leading Black River Falls on Friday, Jan. 19 in a lopsided 70-46 loss where the Tiger’s Ethan Anderson was the star of the show putting up half of the Tiger’s points, most of them in the first half.

Anderson was hot from outside and inside draining 28 of the team’s 39 first half points before the break and he used the second half to feed sound passes to his teammates to spread the point tallies around.
BRF used its height to successfully drive the lane. Bryce Seiber added 14 points and Nate Becker downed 11, most of which came from inside the paint in the second half.
After cutting the Tiger’s lead to a single basket at 27-25, the Norsemen energy waned and they never looked remotely in the game the rest of the way.
From midway in the first half, the Norsemen did not handle the ball well, made bad pass choices and did not execute its plays, which make for a tough night in front of the hometown crowd. Turnovers were also costly, most of which BRF converted into points.
Westby Head Coach Bob Constalie said Black River Falls is a very talented team, with some very tough players to shut down when they get hot, which can be a source of frustration for any opponent.
“We showed improvement from the free throw line, but didn’t take the time to break down BRF to set up solid shot opportunities. We forced shots and turnovers cost us,” Constalie said.
Overall BRF hit 70-percent of its shots compared to Westby’s 31-percent overall average.
Westby had three players in double digits. Sam Strangstalien led the team with 12 points and Griffin Grass put up 10.
Davontae Spears had a solid performance at the charity stripe hitting eight straight late in the game and scoring 12 points overall.
Rounding out the scoring for Westby (1-5, 2-12): Alex Gluch 4, Grant Dayton 2, Joel Armbruster 2, Ryan Daines 2, Devin Nelson 2.
